In the world of education, there is often a divide between high-level pedagogy and the reality of the classroom—especially in under-resourced environments. Nandini Prakash has spent over two decades bridging that gap, proving that the Montessori method isn’t just for elite private schools; it is a powerful tool for social change.
A Foundation of Excellence
Nandini’s journey began with a rigorous academic foundation, holding certifications from AMI (via IMTC) and IMC. Since 2000, she has been a cornerstone of the Indian Institute for Montessori Studies (IIMS), shaping the next generation of educators. But her work didn’t stop at the faculty door.
Montessori for the Masses
Perhaps her most significant contribution is her work with Hosa Chiguru, an intervention program focused on bringing Montessori principles to children from lower economic strata. Nandini recognized a critical need: vernacular-based education.
| Project | Scope & Impact |
| MAYA NGO | Worked with 180 community ownership schools. |
| Arise Project | Introduced Montessori to 4 BBMP schools over 3 years. |
| Hosa Chiguru | Coordinated interventions across government and private schools. |

Taking the Indian Context to the World Stage
Nandini isn’t just practicing the method; she’s researching its efficacy in unique environments. She has taken her findings on the “impact of Montessori in Indian conditions” to global platforms:
- Brussels: Presented at the ISATT conference.
- Orlando: Featured at the AMS Conference.
- Auckland: Presented research backed by a 2012 ISATT Collaborative Research Grant.
The New Chapter: Leading into 2026
Today, Nandini serves as the Co-Director at IIMS. She continues to expand the reach of professional training as the faculty lead for the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (KSOU), a partnership that began in the 2023–24 academic year.
Her career serves as a masterclass in how specialized training can be adapted to serve the most vulnerable populations, ensuring that quality education is a right, not a privilege.
