Guided by Vice Chairman Radha Nagaraj, a veteran Montessori expert trained by the movement’s early pioneers and a dedicated mentor with over 50 years of experience in the field.
In the world of Montessori education in India, few names carry as much quiet authority and practical wisdom as Mrs. Radha Nagaraj. Known affectionately as “Radhaji,” her journey is inextricably linked to the very roots of the Montessori movement in our country.
Training Under the Pioneers
Radhaji’s foundation was set by the best. In 1967–68, she received her pre-primary training directly from Mr. Joosten and Mr. Swamy—legendary figures who were instrumental in establishing the Montessori method in India. This direct lineage ensures that the training provided at IIMS remains authentic and true to Dr. Montessori’s original vision.
A Quarter-Century of Mentorship
With a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Education (B.B.Ed.), Radhaji has spent decades refining the art of teaching:
- In the Classroom: Years of direct work with children, mastering the “prepared environment.”
- At the Training Center: For 25 years, she has served as a cornerstone of the Indian Montessori Training Courses (IMTC), assisting in the transformation of hundreds of students into skilled educators.
Expertise Beyond the Classroom
Her influence extends far across the Indian educational landscape:
- Institutional Consultant: She has provided strategic guidance to the prestigious Shreyas Foundation School in Ahmedabad and continues to support several leading schools in Bangalore.
- Thought Leadership: A regular contributor to Montessori journals, Radhaji has presented pivotal papers at the Indian Montessori Center (Bangalore) and was a featured speaker at the landmark 50 Years of Montessori celebration in Chennai (1989).
